I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in K-6 Elementary Education on May 16, 1993 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In August of 2013, I acquired an add-on to my N.C. teaching license for Reading Specialist. This position allows me to teach reading in all grade levels, Kindergarten through twelfth grade.

My teaching career began 23 years ago, right here at Tabernacle Elementary School in a trailer on the grounds of the "old" school. I was very excited to be part of the transition to the "new" school, which is the building we are in currently. I have seen many changes during my years, but I can say we definitely have a beautiful campus and I am proud to be part of it.

The first year I taught was to a great group of fourth graders. The next year, I taught first grade and I continued teaching first grade for a total of fourteen years. I really enjoyed teaching my young students the fundamentals of reading. After fourteen years, I decided to move back to fourth grade where I could teach reading comprehension more as my focus. I could teach students how to develop critical thinking skills that would lead to understanding what is read. After experiencing readers who need the extra small group or even one on one guided reading with me, I decided to add Reading Specialist to my teaching lincense. I left the regular classroom setting in April of 2016 to begin my new position as Reading Specialist. This school year, 2016-2017, will be my first full year in this position. I will work with students of all grade levels. I feel fortunate to be given the opportunity to teach to my passion...reading.
