During the month of October and November, the Running Club has begun their routine of beginning to exercise each week. According to Mrs. George and Mrs. Trotter (club coordinators), the goal of the club is to encourage exercise and help students make healthy lifestyle choices. “We want to push them to get stronger and more confident and exceed their goals that they set for themselves,” said Mrs. George. The team has hopes of participating in a 5K during the month of December. Way to go team! Keep up the good work!
Also during the month of October, the Fire Department visited and students were able to learn more about how to prevent fires and how to stay safe if they were to experience a fire. Students were encouraged to come up with a fire escape plan and to include a meeting spot. Practicing twice a month is the recommendation for families. Students were encouraged to make sure that their home has smoke detectors. Kitchen safety, fire extinguishers, and the “stop, drop, roll and cover your face” procedure were also hot topics. Students were given practice time to practice some procedures discussed. We appreciate our local community helpers partnering with us to keep us safe!
In the media, Mrs. Lanier has been working with fourth grade students to research pirates further. Students were able to “speak” with a pirate using the site School AI as a digital tool for research. After engaging with the “pirate” for a bit, they asked the pirate how to make a treasure map. Students were able to create their own treasure map using map feature recommendations from the “pirate” such as landforms, landmarks, etc. Students were able to collaborate with a partner if they chose to do so. Research skills begin early and we are so proud of how hard our students are working on these skills!
Mrs. Hunt's class worked on building their vocabulary skills by playing a "Headbandz" and "Trashket Ball" games in class. Mrs. Hunt's hope is to improve student's vocabulary along with having engaging activities in class!
