Tabernacle 24-25 Egg Drop Challenge.
Each year, Tabernacle's STEM Lab holds a very competitive Egg Drop Challenge with our 4th & 5th grade students. We were able to drop 47 eggs that were donated by local families, and could not have done it without their generosity! The drop itself consisted of twenty-five 4th grade eggs and twenty-two 5th grade eggs, each of which had been carefully constructed with assorted materials by the students. The students all have the same materials to choose from so that's it's 100% fair, and each group has the same opportunity to create the perfect egg protector. The students even name their eggs to add a bit of humor and ownership to them. The eggs are dropped from the 2nd floor to start and if they make that drop, they move on to the next floor. They may go as high as 5 - 6 stories depending on our drop location. The last unbroken egg is declared the winner, both for the group that created it and the grade level that they are in. 5th grade remained undefeated again this year, but it was extremely close! The tie-breaker in the end resulted in one very smashed egg for 4th grade.
We would like to thank Guil-Rand Fire Department in Archdale, who generously hosted our egg drop this year. The crew even came out and gave us a hand tediously opening each protected egg to check for damage and then carefully taping them back up. They shared in the disappointment of the eggs that they had gotten "attached to" and the disbelief that some even made it to the next floor. We appreciate the use of their facilities and for their assistance in making this an unforgettable experience for our students! They even added their own little piece of humor to the end of our video, which had the students and staff alike rolling with laughter. Thank you for supporting our school!
